I'd like to take a moment to discuss one of the most beautiful games I've ever had the privilege of playing: 'Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean'. Baten Kaitos was developed exclusively for the Gamecube by Tri-Crescendo and Monolith Soft and published by Namco in 2004*
*Keep in mind this was BEFORE Namco's merger with Ban-Dai.
The main plot is that Humanity lives in Nations and City-States on clusters of Continents and Islands in the Sky, and the Ocean Disappeared thousands of years ago. The Emperor of the Empires plans on collecting five artifacts which, when brought together in the same place, summon a long dead God who wants revenge on humanity for sealing him away.
I mean sure, the opening sequence is tacky, the battle system requires some cleverness, and the voice acting is terrible, but you'll find that there's SO MUCH MORE to this game if you're willing to look past that! The music is simply amazing.
This is just the world map screen alone!
Here's a taste
The Graphics are ahead of the games' time, the art direction is gorgeous, the story is compelling and even philosophical at times, and it's easy to get attached to the characters in your gang of adventurers, and there's lots of Side-Stuff to keep you busy if you want a break from the main plot. (Fun Fact: There are several clever nods to Xenosaga and Xenogears hidden through the game.)
